Being young, I was full of energy and enthusiasm about life. I would sometimes forget to hold my horses. I easily jump into conclusion and decision without giving it a thought or time to listen to the person in front of me. Thus, my inability to listen attentively hurt the people who loved and cared for me the most.
We sometimes look back to our past life and wish that we could do it differently or we want a second chance so we can do it better. As an old saying goes, "If the young only knew, if the old only could".
How would you respond if someone shouted at you? I used to shout back and get into a big argument. If I only knew better. If I only knew by responding, "I hear you", "I understand the pain you are going through", and "I'm here for you". This way of responding can make all the difference.
My friend, If someone would come to you in distress, anxiety and being unreasonable, be still, listen attentively and just be there for them. This way, you will help him or her find their way out of their stress and confusion. The most powerful phrase to use is "I hear you" and no more is needed.
